Today is #WorldTurtleDay & we’re celebrating our state reptile, the ornate box turtle. Kansas designated the ornate box turtle as the official state reptile in 1986, after being nominated by a sixth-grade class in Caldwell. The box turtle prefers prairies and pastures over forest and can completely withdraw its legs, tail, head and neck into a sturdy shell. Remember, it is illegal in Kansas to take turtles from the wild to keep as pets. #CrawfordCounty365
